You want to redraw something you have on a photo but you are not sure which colors you need? Here I show you a tutorial which explains how to find the color palette of a picture!
The problem with pictures instead of art
When you start drawing you maybe try to draw something which is in your room like a chair or a vase. Maybe you also try to redraw something on a photo. You will recognize that this is not that easy as redrawing an artwork which was created with the same media as you want to work with. But why?
The easy answer is that on an artwork you easier can figure out the color palette which was used for realizing that picture. And this color palette is often the key!
When I started drawing I often wanted to repaint something I saw in the room or the landscape outside the window or something on a photo. I was sitting there on my desk and figuring out which colors to use. But I recognized that at the beginning this is a very hard job. I was frustrated because I was not able to figure out which color this should be exactly. This caused different problems like:
- the colors were not that bright
- you were able to see the different colors because they did not merge
- the picture was not that vibrant at the end also if it seemed like all colors were correct
The untrained eye
You will now laugh but when you start working with colors (not only drawing, also makeup) you do not see that much colors. The skill to see colors has to be developed. As a Makeup Artist you also learn that at school and it’s the same situation in art. So when you start drawing you might have problems an experienced artist does not have that much because he/she does not only have the experience but the eyes are already trained to see more different colors.
The way to improvement
So don’t get frustrated about that. It is like it is and it’s the same for everyone 😉 So you are not too clumsy for that, you only need to practice! But that’s good news because this means that you can learn it!
To help you a little bit out of your difficult situation I show you a tutorial which will help you!
This tutorial is not done by me but I wanted to share it with you guys!
I hope you enjoy it!
